Get Involved

Secure your place in history! The Hall has been lovingly restored by our team of dedicated volunteers but we need people like you to help take care of a unique historic house and gardens and help open its doors to more visitors. Join our friendly volunteer team and share your existing experience and skills or learn new skills while you work in a beautiful setting.

Garden Volunteers and guides

Working with our expert gardeners you could be involved in planting, pruning, establishing boundaries, or developing the plant nursery side of our productive walled garden, with sales of plants supporting our continued garden development.

Nature Conservation Volunteers

Our varied outdoor volunteer roles aim to conserve precious natural environments for people and for wildlife. Get involved in tasks like woodland management, maintaining fencing and pathways around our nature walks, protecting the natural habitats of our wide variety of local wildlife.

Maintenance Volunteers

We need enthusiastic volunteers not scared of a bit of hard work to continue to maintain the hall, to keep it from falling into the ruinous state in which the Trust found it. If you are a skilled craftsmen you can share your skills or if you are a keen novice you can come and learn from the best.

Tour Guides and Room Stewards

Our tour guides and room stewards are the friendly face that brings our history and rooms to life, welcoming visitors and answering their questions. We provide the training; you just need to have the passion and enthusiasm to share your interests in history, architecture or gardening with others.

Hospitality Volunteering

We generate valuable restoration and conservation funds by welcoming visitors to enjoy our facilities here in a number of ways, from public family events, to weddings, to conferences and theatre nights. In order for these events to run smoothly we need people to parking, meet & greet, serve refreshments, co-ordinate children’s activities, man our produce stalls, run our book shop, the possibilities are endless! For those looking to meet new people every day and for those interested in gaining valuable experience in the running of large public events.

Many thanks for allowing me to be part of this. You have helped me to get a better life together at last and I think I have learnt to smile again and improve my life.

Jenny – Hospitality Volunteer

I enjoy the company, I like sharing my knowledge and learning new skills from others. It is more fun than staring at the blank wall of a gym.

Bob—Outdoor Volunteer

I used to come walking here while I was still working and sadly saw it deteriorate before my eyes. I knew when I retired I wanted to become part of the team who breathed new life into the place. I really like being here and enjoy the company of the other volunteers.
