Baldwin de Freville

Baldwin de Freville was the name used for the first born male of the de Freville family for several generations. The record of them is confused, different sources giving different dates of birth marriage and death and even different numbers of Baldwins. What seems to be true is that it was Alexander de Freville, who in marrying Philip de Marmions grand-daughter Joan de Cromwell acquired the interest in the Middleton estate. The child of Alexander and Joan was called Baldwin as were his son, grandson and great grandson. The fourth Baldwin was the father of Margaret de Freville, who married Hugh Willoughby of Wollaton. They had one daughter, Eleanor and a son Richard. Hugh predeceased Margaret and she remarried, her second husband being Richard Bingham, who, like Hugh Willoughby was descended from Ralph Bugge. When Margaret died ca 1418/19 her estate was given to Henry Willoughby, her grandson by her first marriage. There are fine brasses in Middleton Church of Margaret and Richard Bingham.
