Work Experience Placements

Each summer we welcome work experience students to the Hall & Gardens. We really enjoy having them with us, helping them to learn about how we look after our site and our visitors. We would tell you all about the time that they spend with us and what they get up to but we think it would sound better in their own words!

“I’ve absolutely loved my time volunteering this summer at Middleton Hall and gardens. By being surrounded in a friendly environment among all ages of staff, volunteers and visitors I was able to develop my love for history and gain more of an understanding of the heritage industry as well as visitor experience. This was a valuable, fun, experience that I can take and apply to potentially my future career in heritage or any career in general. In a varied role detailing from greeting visitors to organizing tickets for events there was never a moment where I was bored, especially in Middleton where nothing is ever the same with many different, exciting events to keep you occupied such as Middleton motors and the Plant Hunters fair where you interact with kind like-minded people. My favourite part about volunteering this summer would have to be talking to the children,  and explaining to them about the different trails from finding buzzy bees to swinging monkeys in the gardens to then giving them a prize after the satisfaction of putting a smile on their face and talking to them about their adventure. “

Kareena, Visitor Welcome

“Volunteering at Middleton Hall has been incredible.  I can honestly say that I’ve loved every second: from serving afternoon tea to working front of house, to doing archives to greeting guests.  I’ve loved being kept super busy and swept off my feet with the customers, but I’ve also loved the quieter times when I’ve been able to have hour long conversations with some amazing people.  I am so grateful for all of the varied days I’ve had at Middleton Hall; I am so grateful for the truly happy moments I’ve experienced at Middleton Hall.  Since completing my work experience with Middleton Hall, I feel so passionate about people and love chatting to people.  Volunteering for Middleton Hall has improved my mental health more than I can ever explain, and when I return home I am buzzing about what a great day I’ve had and all of the lovely people I’ve chatted to.  I’ve enjoyed it so much that they can’t get rid of me!  I’m hoping to continue volunteering for Middleton Hall.  I cannot thank them enough for putting a smile on my face :)”
