English Oak, Quercus robur
Winter Flowering Cherry, Prunus x subhirtella ‘Autumnalis’
Plum ‘Warwickshire Drooper’
‘Count Althann’s Gage’
This year we are going to be planting new trees on our estate. We are having to take out some dead non-native sycamore and self-seeded holly this February so thought it the ideal opportunity to replace them with some of our own choosing.
We have opted for our native English Oak, Quercus robur, (grown from acorns by one of our volunteers from our own oak trees) and Winter Flowering Cherry, Prunus x subhirtella ‘Autumnalis’ which is a great food source for early season pollinators and will add a splash of colour to our grounds in the depths of winter. We have also chosen a couple of different varieties of fruit trees for our orchard, one that already does very well the Plum ‘Warwickshire Drooper’ and a new type of Gage for us the ‘Count Althann’s Gage’.
By sponsoring one of these trees you can chose to dedicate it to someone, and although we do not mark these with plaques we will record every tree and who it was planted for as we have done so for the last 40 years. We shall send you a picture of your sponsored tree and a map to show you where it has been planted so that you can check on its progress when you come to visit.
