New Photos of Middleton Hall from 1982

Middleton Hall Trust are very pleased to have recently received five previously unseen photographs, which were taken on a visit to Middleton Hall in 1982 by a representative of the CPRE.

The CPRE has a strong connection with Middleton Hall. In 1977, when the Tamworth Civic Society came across the derelict Middleton Hall, they approached the local branch of the CPRE. At that time CPRE stood for the Council for the Preservation of Rural England. Their name changed in 2003 to the Council for the Protection of Rural England and again in 2020 to CPRE – The Countryside Charity.

After they were approached, CPRE became the principal driving organisation involved in the campaign to save Middleton Hall and even commissioned their own surveys. These surveys were very important to the survival of Middleton Hall because they showed that the Hall was still salvageable. CPRE was then one of the organisations involved in the establishment of Middleton Hall Trust. By that right, their representatives held a position on our board of Trustees for many years and a number of those involved with CPRE also became volunteers at Middleton Hall.
