Hidden behind our beautiful Tudor Barn is our converted Victorian stable yard. This tranquil rural hub is home to a popular coffee shop and a selection of independent retailers and businesses.

Meet the owners

The Courtyard was once the old stable yard and was renovated by the Trust's volunteers in the late 1980s. It was opened by Lord Middleton in 1990. The Courtyard is owned by Middleton Hall Trust and to provide income for our charitable activities we lease out the units in The Courtyard to local businesses.
Hidden behind our beautiful Tudor Barn, in the converted Victorian stables, you’ll find 12 delightful independent retailers and small businesses. From home décor and jewellery, fresh flowers and soaps, to locally produced drinks and dog treats. It’s the perfect place to stop and relax with a cup of coffee and slice of cake, or even a treatment in the beauty salon.

Is a fabulous independent coffee shop here at The Courtyard open Wednesdays to Mondays. You will always receive a friendly welcome and excellent service from the team. From fresh, flavourful breakfasts to luscious Afternoon Teas, heavenly cakes to an aromatic coffee range, there is something to please all tastes. Bake 180 Coffee Shop offer vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options and use environmentally friendly take-out containers.
Their name originated from their 1966 Volkswagen split screen campervan that has been beautifully converted into a hospitality serving platform. Established in 2018 Split Drinks are pleased to have expanded their growing business and found a permanent base here at The Courtyard. In their shop you will find a range of products that are different, exciting and unique, distilled by like-minded people who share the same passion and vision as owners David, Emily & Tom.
Joyem is a new range of organic products, each handmade for the personal touch… all of our products are made to the highest standards in rural Staffordshire.
Carefully selected, aromatherapy based fragrance oils are hand poured with care and attention into each product that we produce. To compliment the handmade range of fragrance we also stock a range of ethically sourced homeware.
Natalie is a portrait and wedding photographer and this is her studio.

Entangled Wool & Tudor Magick
Debbie runs both of these delightful shops. Tudor Magick stocks oils, lotions and potions, to soaps and remedies galore, all based on traditional, herbal and floral recipes passed down through time. Tarot readings, palmistry and crystal ball divination. Wands, cauldrons, spell books herbs, and all manor of magick can be found.
Entangled Wool Merchants is where you can buy any of the hand-crafted items ready-made or commission a unique piece for yourself, they also stock a large range of beautiful wool and patterns, and inspiring ideas for all level of knitters and crafters.
Is a multi award-winning luxury Thai beauty salon located here in or tranquil Courtyard. It is a dream come true for Pom Collins, the owner of the salon who has worked tirelessly to make her business what it is today. Pom has 20 years of experience in the beauty industry and is pleased to employ a small team of skilled and talented beauticians. She started the business with one goal: to bring the best of Thailand to the local area.

A slice of Doggie heaven within The Courtyard. Stocking a carefully selected range of healthy, natural treats. Along with a range of toys, enrichment products and accessories. All of which are tried and tested by Bertie himself! We even have Doggie ice cream for those warmer summer days!

Gillian is a local silversmith and jewellery designer. As well as selling Gillian’s unique jewellery designs, all created with sterling silver, gemstones and hand crafted glass from UK glass artists, Odonata Studios also carry a selection of specimen minerals, and a collection of beautiful pieces of craftsmanship from other British artists and designer-makers which have all been carefully selected by Gillian for their bright outlook and nature themed designs.
An established dog grooming service, offering the best quality pampering for your canine friends. Barkley’s is owned by Tina Owen, an experienced and compassionate dog groomer who has been here at The Courtyard since 2009. Tina knows that every dog is different and has their own individual personality and requirements, so she always takes time to make sure your beloved pet feels safe and happy whilst getting a stylish trim. The outside area of our Courtyard is dog friendly.
